Threat: Lost caches. | Rating
Low |
||||
Severity:
Marginal |
Context:
The last time many of the caches on Goat Island were last found in 2016. Flooding and time may have removed many of them. It is common for lonely caches to go missing, especially in an aggressive environment like on an island in the middle of the Missouri River. By the rules of Geocaching, cache hunters are not allowed to log physical caches as finds until they find the container and sign the log. They are not to replace someone else’s cache without their permission.

Mitigate: | Mr. Eric Kriech from the Geocachers of Iowa Facebook group reports that we have permission from Static Tank to replace his missing and broken containers and that Geoboss is no long active. Since these two cache owners own many of the caches on Goat Island, the severity reduces from “Critical” to “Marginal” and the probability from “Occasional” to “Unlikely.” This, in turn, reduces the overall risk rating from “High” to “Low.” An item on the packing list would be replacement containers of varying sizes. If the permission covers all cache containers, this will eliminate the risk completely. | |||||
