Packing List for Individual Cache Hunters (updated 17 Feb 20):
- Safety Equipment:
- Life jackets for traveling on the water.
- Hiking whistles to signal others in case of a mishap.
- At least 2L of drinking water in bottles, canteens, bladders, or other containers that can be quickly refilled.
- Bug repellent (including tick repellant).
- Poison plant treatment kit.
- Durable outdoor wear with long sleeves, long pants, and hats with wide brims.
- Durable footwear for hiking on the island.
- Personal first aid kit.
- Trail mix.
- Recommend wearing light, loose fitting exercise wear (T-shirt and shorts) under your outerwear. If you star to suffer from heat exhaustion, you can remove your outerwear while protecting your modesty.
- Geocache Equipment:
- Trash bags for collecting trash for the CITO event.
- Cache containers of various sizes to replace those that might be lost.
- Camouflage tape and paint for replacement containers.
- Portable ladder or extending pole for tree caches.
- Cache maintenance kits.
- Caching tools of the trade.
- Extra batteries for phones and GPSr devices.
- Trackables and pathtags you will want to leave in caches on the island.
- Other Equipment (recommended for convenience or other):
- Camping and/or hotel reservations.
- Driving directions and addresses of key locations.
- Camp stools.
- Reading materials.
- Camping permits from the National Park Service if camping on Goat Island itself.
- Download coordinates to devices. Cell coverage is spotty on the island.
- Changes of clothes and shoes.
- Your own kayaks, canoe, or motorboat.
- Waterproof bag to protect your gear while boating to or from the island.
- Extra batteries or power packs for phones and GPSr devices.
- Swimwear and towel if you want to take a swim.
- Change of clothes in case you go into the water.
- List of trackable numbers to make it easier for others to log the trackables you will be sharing. A single list lets them use logthemall.com with ease.
- Personal weather radio.
- Water purification kit?
- Nametags to mark the gear you may leave at base camp.
- A number of plastic bags.
- Camp food and stoves.
- Toilet paper or sanitary wipes in case you need to relieve yourself while out on the trails.
- Hand sanitizer.
- Equipment or supplies you are lending or donating to support the “Get Your Goat” field trip.
